The UAE was early to put AI on its national agenda, with a National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, and many UAE companies now have AI on their roadmap. The practical challenge is language. Customers write in Modern Standard Arabic, Gulf dialect, English and Arabizi (Arabic typed in Latin letters with digits such as 3 and 7), often in the same conversation. An AI system that only works well in English will frustrate a large share of your users.

Arabic language AI that works in practice

Leading commercial language models handle Arabic well, and the UAE has produced open models of its own, such as the Falcon family from Abu Dhabi's Technology Innovation Institute and the Arabic-focused Jais. We choose models per task: hosted APIs for speed to market, or open-weight models on your own infrastructure when data must not leave it.

For RAG, Arabic needs extra care: OCR that handles Arabic script in scanned PDFs, text normalization before indexing, multilingual embeddings so an English question can find an Arabic answer, and responses in the language the user wrote in. We test dialect and Arabizi inputs explicitly, since they are where systems usually fail.

Can your chatbot understand Gulf Arabic dialect?

Modern language models understand Gulf Arabic reasonably well, but quality varies by model and topic. We build a test set of real customer messages in dialect, Modern Standard Arabic, English and Arabizi, measure each candidate model against it and tune prompts and retrieval until the results meet an agreed bar.
