    Clickable prototype

A clickable prototype or design demo. Useful for investor pitches and user testing before any code is written.

    ₹1.5–4 lakh

  2. 02

    Lean MVP

A lean MVP on one platform with a handful of core features, depending mostly on backend complexity.

  3. 03

    Mid-sized app

A mid-sized app on Android and iOS with payments, an admin panel and notifications.

    ₹20–55 lakh

How app development costs break down.

Most of the price is engineering time. Anything that adds hours adds cost, and the idea itself is rarely the driver.

Scope is the biggest lever

Two founders with the same idea can spend very different amounts depending on how much goes into the first release. Every login method, filter, chat window or report is design, code and test time. The most reliable way to spend less is to build less first: ship the one or two jobs your users must be able to do, then let real usage decide the next phase. That is the thinking behind our MVP development and prototyping work.

Platforms and build approach

Two separate native apps cost more than one cross-platform codebase. Several Indian firms put the saving at roughly a third, though the real figure depends on how much platform-specific work the app needs. For most business apps, cross-platform development with Flutter or React Native is the sensible default. Native still wins for heavy use of device hardware, complex animation or augmented reality. Compare the trade-offs in native vs cross-platform and Flutter vs React Native.

Backend, admin panel and integrations

Most real apps need a server, a database, APIs and a dashboard for your team, and this is often a large share of the work. Payment gateways, maps, SMS, WhatsApp and ERP connections each need setup, error handling and testing. See how we approach backend and API development and AI integration; if your app needs AI features, our glossary explains generative AI, large language models and RAG in plain English.

Design depth, compliance and seniority

A clean design built on standard components costs less than a fully custom identity with heavy animation (UI/UX design). Apps that handle health, financial or children's data need extra work on access control, encryption and audit logs, for example under India's DPDP Act. Senior engineers cost more per hour but usually make fewer expensive mistakes.

The cost after launch

The build price is not the full cost of owning an app. Budget for these before you commit:

  • Hosting and cloud services that grow with your user base.
  • Third-party fees: payment gateway charges, SMS and WhatsApp message fees, maps API usage and email services.
  • Store accounts: a one-time Google Play registration fee and an annual Apple developer membership.
  • Maintenance: OS updates, library upgrades and fixes, which many teams plan at roughly 15-20% of the build cost per year (maintenance and support).

How accurate is this app cost calculator?

It is an indicative estimate. Your answers are matched to the published 2026 price bands in our pricing guide, and the cost drivers you pick show where in that band you are likely to land. An exact figure needs a feature-level estimate, which we share with every proposal after a free consultation.

How much does it cost to build an app in India in 2026?

Typical ranges quoted by established Indian firms are roughly ₹1.5-4 lakh for a clickable prototype, ₹4-18 lakh for a lean MVP on one platform, ₹20-55 lakh for a mid-sized Android and iOS app with payments, an admin panel and notifications, and ₹50 lakh to well over ₹1 crore for large platforms such as marketplaces, fintech or healthcare apps.

Is a cross-platform app cheaper than two native apps?

Usually. Flutter and React Native let one team ship Android and iOS from a single codebase, and several Indian firms put the saving at roughly a third compared with building two native apps. The real figure depends on how much platform-specific work the app needs.

How much does app maintenance cost per year?

Many teams plan roughly 15-20% of the original build cost per year for OS updates, library upgrades, bug fixes and small changes. Hosting, third-party fees and store accounts are extra.

Why does the calculator not give a timeline in weeks?

Timelines depend on the exact feature list, integrations and how quickly decisions are made, so a number without a scope would be a guess. We plan work in two-week sprints with a demo at each milestone and confirm the timeline in the written estimate.

What is not included in the estimate?

Hosting and cloud services, third-party fees such as payment gateway, SMS, WhatsApp and maps charges, app store accounts, and marketing. Ask every vendor to list what is included and what is not.
