How to vet a .NET developer
.NET developers range from those maintaining Windows-only .NET Framework applications to engineers building cloud-native services on modern .NET. Clarify which you need, then check fluency in C#, ASP.NET Core, dependency injection, Entity Framework Core and asynchronous programming. Strong developers understand when Entity Framework is the right tool and when a lighter approach such as Dapper performs better.
Migration experience is valuable because many organizations still run .NET Framework applications. Ask how candidates moved a project to modern .NET, which technologies had no direct equivalent, such as Web Forms or WCF, and how they handled them. Our .NET development page explains our approach to these migrations.
Enterprise skills matter too: integration with Entra ID and Microsoft 365, deployment to Azure or on-premises servers, security practices, logging and testing with xUnit or NUnit. Developers comfortable working within formal change processes and security policies adapt quickly to corporate environments.
